Last month, Arbor Housing and Development officially announced the closure of its CA$H (Creating Assets, Savings, and Hope) Program. For three years, the program was funded through the United Way of the Southern Tier and the IRS. Additionally, more than 50 volunteers donated their time at multiple tax sites throughout Steuben, Chemung, and Schuyler Counties to make the CA$H Program possible.

Moving forward, Arbor Housing remains committed to providing resources for tax support throughout the region. In response to this closure, the organization is building Southern Tier Tax Connect, an online portal to free and low-cost tax services nearby and online. Currently, visitors may find tax documents, phone numbers, and local resources online at ArborDevelopment.org/stcash.

“Unfortunately, the COVID pandemic has created many obstacles in administering the CA$H Program with the current availability of resources,” said Susan Bull, Chief Operations Officer at Arbor Housing and Development. “For the past six months, we’ve been communicating and coordinating with volunteers and service providers to identify the availability of free tax prep services for the 2020-21 tax year.”
